Cucumis metuliferus fruit

It has been our experience that Cucumis metuliferus performs very well in our area in a warm season planting. The vines grew extensively and spread throughout the garden, acting as a groundcover. We have observed the first signs of fruit to begin about three months after planting, in August. Trellising has been found to be most effective, as fruit mostly developed towards the base of the trellis in a large mass. Fruit is often obscured by the plant the stems and leaves need to be moved to find it. The fruit is ripe when it is light yellow. The flesh is lime-green and has a jelly-like texture. The flavor is described as being like a cross between a cucumber and a melon.
